The Division for Policy Development brings an additional dimension to the overall identity of the Institute for Social and Humanities Research “Euro-Balkan” – a dimension of a think-tank and an institute for development of applied policies. Although the activities of the Division for Policy Development somehow leave the purely academic sphere within which the School for Regional Studies (as Euro-Balkan’s main pillar) operate, in direction of research, analysis and development of applied policies (and even one step beyond that – towards social activism), both departments still share the same basic principles. Namely, activities of the Division for Policy Development are based upon the methodology and epistemology developed within the framework of the School for Regional Studies. Besides their identical methodological and epistemological basis, the School for Regional Studies and the Division for Policy Development also share the same vision and mission which have been immanent to the “Euro-Balkan” Institute since its establishment - dissemination and implementation of European Union ideas and policies, promotion of transatlantic cooperation and interdependence, as well as regional integration and emanation of an authentic European identity of the Balkans. In that manner, activities of the Division for Policy Development complement the activities of School for Regional Studies and other organizational units of the “Euro-Balkan” Institute towards accomplishment of their common goal – to overcome the mainly pejorative meaning of the term “Balkans” and to promote the identities of the Balkans as an integral part of the common European identity.
