“Euro-Balkan” is a scientific institution certified by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Macedonia. It is managed by the Board and the Executive Director, Jovan Donev, PhD. The Institute is generally divided in two main programs: School for Regional Studies (SRS), coordinated by Katerina Kolozova, PhD and Division for Policy Development (DPD), coordinated by Jana Lozanovska, MA. SRS is comprised of the following departments: Gender Studies Centre, Department for Knowledge-based Development, Department for Contemporary Political Thought and Centre for Visual and Cultural Research. DPD is comprised of Centre for Public Administration and Public Policies and Centre for Security and Democracy. The Ohrid Summer University for young faculty from the region of Southeastern Europe and the Library Department (including electronic databases section) are separate programs.
Majority of staff is comprised of young researchers, either graduate students or already holding a PhD degree.

To achieve its mission and goals Euro-Balkan Institute will be engaged in the following main types of activities:

- To promote programs of higher education and innovative research in areas of knowledge/academic thought that are underrepresented or rather rendered non-existent in the Macedonian society, such as “the gender studies” “cultural studies of the Balkans (Southeastern Europe)”, “educational studies (with programmatic/problem oriented focus on Southeastern Europe)”;
In addition to this, to institute standards of academic excellence inherently related to the critical thinking based teaching and innovative and uncensored research.
- The disciplines whose academic legitimacy “Euro-Balkan” Institute seeks to promote are marked by grave lack of academic recognition in the country. Hence, in order to introduce substantial change of critical and creative thought into the still highly conventional “compartmental” academia one is in a pressing need of establishing interdisciplinarity, methodology of “situated knowledge” and critique of patriarchy (insidiously present in the dominant scientific ideologies of our society). The latter has been the academic approach which “Euro-Balkan” Institute has been promoting for almost a decade now, not only in Macedonia but also in the region of Southeastern Europe and within which one has continuously developed the academic/scientific potential of Institute’s human resources.
- To contribute to the substantial reforms in the higher education and scientific research in Macedonia in terms of rethinking the fundamental ideas of education, knowledge, science in a way that would reverse the very logic of what is now legitimized as “relevant knowledge” and as “scientific”.
- Euro-Balkan Institute research staff is comprised of 24 senior and junior researches.
- Supporting the European integration process and the ongoing policy reforms in R Macedonia by proposing to the public debate and the decision makers arguments based on competent, responsible and transparent research outputs;
- Supporting innovative and critical public debate and the public-private dialogue in the country through realization of different projects and organizing different forums (conferences, seminars, etc).
- Conducting and disseminating independent policy impact analyses, targeting higher transparency of the decision making process;
- Organizing seminars, conferences and workshops on general or specific, for the Macedonian current reality, problems or other policy related issues;
- Committing to the idea of academic excellence that contribute critically to the creation of a new generation of young faculty that will transform the national and regional education and scientific environment by bringing it as close as possible to the current EU standards.
- Creating and maintaining a broad network of Macedonian and foreign experts and organizations in order to take full advantage of their knowledge and capacity;
- Continuing in building-up a sustainable professional Euro-Balkan team having the knowledge and capacity to support the EU oriented reforms in R. Macedonia.
